Michael Duffy Obituary

Duffy, Michael William "Mike"

Michael W. Duffy of Dayton passed away peacefully August 4, 2025 at age 76 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Marilyn, their two daughters Laurie Hurst (James) and Megan Duffy (Kevin Hoyng), and grandson David Hurst. He will also be remembered by brothers Mark Duffy (Fabienne) and David Duffy (Linda), sister-in-law Anne Duffy and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents William and Martha Duffy and his brother Brian Duffy, who received a kidney transplant from Mike in 1983.

Mike's love of all sports, but specifically basketball, baseball and golf, would play a major role in his life. Duff graduated from Chaminade High School in 1967 where he was a member of the golf team and the 1966 State Championship basketball team. He graduated from Bowling Green and earned an MBA from Dayton in the early '70s, becoming an avid Flyers fan and member of the Varsity D Club.

He will be fondly remembered by the golf community in Dayton, especially at Miami Valley Country Club and NCR Country Club where he was a club champion and celebrated three holes-in-one over a 25-year span.

Together with Marilyn, Mike gave everything to the family. He was a wonderful dad and grandpa, pouring his love and time into his daughters and grandson. He passed down his love of sports to the girls and coached them in basketball, soccer and golf throughout their childhood, never missing a game or event.

Mike served as athletics director at Bishop Leibold for several years, helping the school and St. Henry's Parish build out their sports facilities and grow their CYO sports program. Mike owned and operated Midwest Education Service for more than 30 years, which supported Dayton and Cincinnati Catholic Schools as they searched for the best teachers in Southwest Ohio.

A celebration of Duff's life will be held at NCR Country Club from 12:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. Please bring your stories and your memories.

Memorial donations in Mike's name can be made to the Miami Valley Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org/dayton or to Chaminade-Julienne Catholic High School at cjeagles.org/give.

So sorry for your loss. What fond memories I have of growing up on the dead-end street, Ravenwood with a zillion kids.......never a dull moment, especially with the Duffy boys around.
Sincere condolences to all, and especially to Mark and David who will remember the kickball games.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Duffy family during this all too sad time. No one will forget Mike´s
Contribution to Chaminade s first basketball state championship over Toledo Libby 55-53 with an insane fourth quarter come from behind win. He and the Duffys always represented themselves with class and dignity. I thank Mike for enhancing my Chaminade experience with his great play and overall kindness.

Mike followed by his brothers delivered the newspaper to our house on Rugby Rd. He often played driveway ball with us on our driveway. A good player and a great guy. Mike will be missed.

My sincere condolences to the whole Duffy family. I know Mike fought a long battle, perhaps too long. Empathizing with you as I lost my brother to the same insidious disease. May he rest in peace & when he crosses that rainbow bridge may he find all manor of sports on the other side.
