Raland RISLUND Obituary

News Death Notice

RISLUND, Raland "Ron" Tech Sergeant, Retired Age 66, beloved husband of Sharon, married a wonderful 36 years and loving father of Tara (Mike) Robertson and Tanya Rislund and devoted Grampa of Jacob "Jake" and Penelope "Penny" Robertson, all of Beavercreek where he was a longtime resident, suddenly passed away at Soin Medical Center on March 11, 2015. Born February 12, 1949, in Detroit Lakes, MN to Aldon and Alice Rislund. The family moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1959. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Ron proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force, stationed in many places throughout the United States and overseas, retiring as a Tech Sergeant in 1987, a career he so loved. After retiring from the Air Force, Ron was employed as a security officer at an electrical distribution center in Phoenix, AZ, and continued working another 20 years as a material handler at Elder Beerman Distribution Center in Fairborn, OH. Ron did not like to sit still for very long and kept everyone smiling and laughing at jokes he played on family and friends and any new acquaintances. He was a life-long fan of the Minnesota Vikings and became a fan of Ohio State upon moving to Ohio. During football season you could always find him in front of the TV watching as many games as possible. Ron was an incredible man, loving and caring to all he came in contact with and to all those who knew him personally. He lived with a strong faith in God, gratitude, acceptance and simplicity, but really enjoyed a good time with family and friends having a strong sense of humor. Ron was a strong supporter of the Spina Bifida Association, attending and participating in many of their functions to support his grandson, Jake, as well as many other charitable events such as the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Aside from his immediate family, Ron is survived by four sisters, LaVonne (Al) Laudel of Scottsdale, AZ, Jan Pouncey and LeeAnne Rislund, both of Phoenix, AZ, and Kathy (Joe) Arnote of Dayton, NV; and one brother, Allen of Payson, AZ; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends Tuesday, March 17, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, OH. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Chaplin David Merrifield of Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Those who may wish to remember Ron with any gift, flowers or other expressions of love are asked to make a donation to the Spina Bifida Association in Jake's name, in loving memory of Grampa Ron Rislund, to the American Heart Association, as above, or to the United States Air Force Memorial, Washington D.C., in his memory. A casual celebration of Ron's life will be held following the ceremony and all family and friends are encouraged to attend.
