Robert Shaffer Obituary

Shaffer, Robert E. "Bobby"

Shaffer, Robert E. "Bobby", 75, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at The James Cancer Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 6, 1950, to Casper and Teresa Shaffer. Bobby was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a graduate of Northeastern High School. Bobby retired from Navistar in 2000 and was a longtime member of the Union Club. Known for his great sense of humor and kind heart, he was happiest in retirement, spending time with his grandchildren. Whether he was taking Emalyn to the barn to care for her horses, golfing with Tanner, or spinning larger-than-life tales with Abby, he treasured every moment. His love of animals was well known - he had a special way with them, able to train or calm nearly any creature with a few words and a handful of peanuts. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phillip. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Debbie; his daughter, Jeanette (Bob) Bowman; his son, Bobby Jr.; his grandchildren, Abby Bowman, Tanner Bowman, and Emalyn Shaffer; Emalyn's mother, Kellie Rose; his siblings; and many nieces and nephews. To honor Bobby's life, a gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at Rambling Dixie Ranch, 6930 Ohio 55, Urbana, OH 43078. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to remember Bobby in the things he loved most: time with family, a good laugh with friends, and the gentle company of animals.
