Robert Wisenberger Obituary

WISENBERGER, Robert "Bob"

Robert W. Wisenberger Sr. "Bob", 74, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025. He was born on March 12, 1951, in Springfield, the son of the late William and Geraldine (Callicoat) Wisenberger. Bob graduated from Springfield Shawnee High School in 1969 before proudly enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served as a medic during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he built a lifelong career of dedication and courage as a firefighter with the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department, retiring in 2001 after 25 years of service. After his retirement as a firefighter, Bob worked at Young's Jersey Dairy for 17 years in farm entertainment. He loved serving and interacting with the customers, always striving to assure "every guest leaves delighted." Alongside his wife, Edith, Bob's love for animals blossomed into a passion that touched countless lives. Together they founded DOGTORS Animal Assisted Therapy, where they trained pets to bring comfort and healing to others. This mission was especially dear to him, inspired by his beloved dog, Buffy. Through DOGTORS, Bob has trained and certified over 400 animal therapy teams since 2003. During the past several years, Bob made plans to ensure DOGTORS will continue by leaving DOGTORS under direction of wife Edith, instructors Marcia Doncaster and Brenda Bailey and AAT evaluators Erin Bittner-Wolfe and Holly McCutcheon. The family would also like to thank special friend, Jo Scott, who was instrumental in expanding DOGTORS into Indiana. Special thanks to Marilyn Snyder of K-9 Kollege. Bob cherished the simple joys of life, traveling to Florida, casting a fishing line in quiet waters, and finding peace in places away from the busyness of the world. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Edith; his children, Amy (Frank) Jones and Bobby (Jenny) Wisenberger; his seven grandchildren, Madison and Caramia Jones, Michelle and Michael Emory, Anastasia, Samson, and Jonathan Wisenberger; his sister, Pam (Ken) Bellamy; many beloved nieces and nephews; and honorary granddaughter Christa Brown. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 1, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, where a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Enon Cemetery. Therapy dogs are welcome to attend services. Family wants to extend their gratitude to Crossroads Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's honor to the Clark County SPCA or Samaritan's Purse. My dog Annie Mae and I took the Pet Therapy Class taught by Bob and Edith. We have been a therapy team for 7 years. My dog and I both love visiting with patients at both Springfield Children's and the Soin Hospital in Beavercreek. You will be sadly missed, but we are very grateful having known you!

I met Bob and Edith when I wanted to make my pup a Therapy Dog. They founded Dogtors Pet Therapy, and my dog, Annie Mae, and I took their course. We are still serving as a therapy team at Springfield Childrens' and the Soin Hospital. You have been an inspiration for us all, and will be greatly missed!
