My deeepest sympathy to Rusty's mother, brothers, and children. I will always remember Rusty as a fun-loving, great guy with a very infectious smile. I was fortunate enough to see him a few times over the past couple of years. I know he will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

My little sister Reba Teague Mullins called to inform me of Rusty's passing. It felt strange to be readying myself for a fun-filled week of fishing in Canada while at the same time hearing such sad news for the Rushing family. The last time I talked with Rusty was in Springfield last summer. I remember seeing Rusty and Steve sitting on the patio after their round of golf, and as I walked into their presence feeling so happy to see my old friends again. Rusty's way of being with friends had never changed and I'm now so thankful for that brief visit in Springfield. Mike and I will be thinking of Steve and Rusty's family as they go through this most-difficult time. Our condolences to everyone close to Rusty! Life is so fragile, love all those close to you. It's so hard to read the paper and see a another VBH classmate who passed away. My brother Mike Royce was in Rusty's class of 71, myself in 72' but I knew of Rusty and I wanted to let his friends and family and co-workers know he will never be out out your thoughts, memories or heart, remember the good times, he would want it that way. I remember Rusty in high school as this tall good looking guy with a smile, wish I could of known him like all of you have. My sincere sympathy to you all.

To say I will miss Rusty doesn"t even begin to say what a loss all of us feel. We will miss his laugh, his friendly personality and the fact that we don't have him to talk to any more. Our thoughts are with Rustys family.

I was so saddened and shocked to hear about Rusty. I have many fond memories during high school of fun times with Rusty. But the one that came to mind first was a Thanksgiving in the early 70's when Steve, Rusty, and Mike Trick had dinner with my family here in Scottsdale. My son Jason was 3 years old and I have old super 8 movies of all of us throwing a nerf football around and Rusty picked Jason up and carried him around on his shoulders. They both had huge smiles on their faces. My family is thinking of all of Rusty's family and our hearts go out to you. You all are in our prayers.

I just got word this morning of Rusty's passing. It sadden me very much. We went to Vandalia Butler High School together and what I remember is how very friendly he always was. I saw him not too long ago at Meijiers in Englewood (Ohio) and he was the very same friendly Rusty. I will miss him and am praying for his children and family.

Rusty's passing comes as quite a shock to Carolyn & I. He was a good friend to Carolyn's sister, Kathy Huston Clemons. He helped to organize the first road rallye fund raising event for a scholarship in memory of Kathy. We are getting ready to start organizing this year's event and just talked about calling Rusty. We will sure miss his help and most importantly his friendship.

I was deeply shocked and saddened by the news. Rusty Rushing was a big man, with a big heart and soul to match. He was deeply devoted to his family & friends and he will be missed tremendously. My deepest sympathy is extended to his mother, Jody; his brothers Steve and Bob; his beloved children, and his close friends and co-workers.

I played golf with Rusty Saturday June 4th just before he left on his trip to Arizona.
I think Rusty shot a 79 and played extremely well. As for me I only lost 3 balls so it was a good day. Off and on through out the round we reminisced some about our glory days on the football and baseball fields at Butler. We talked about different players on the teams and some of our more memorable games and plays we made during our athletic careers at Butler. Rusty told me about a play during the Northmont game his senior year (at Northmont) and their running back was on an end run on the Northmont side of the field. Rusty tackled the player right in front of the bolt’s bench. He told me it was probably the hardest hit (tackle) he ever made. He started to laugh and said Ned Booher, Northmont’s Coach, grabbed him and spun him around to face his Northmont team and yelled at them “ Now that’s how you’re supposed to tackle”. I had never heard that story before but you can bet I’ll never forget it. I was hoping to play more golf with Rusty and Harry…
But at least I got one final round. I”ll Certainly miss him.
