Steven Hull Obituary

Hull, Steven Lynn

Steven L. Hull, age 83, passed away Wednesday, December 11th, 2024 at Lee Healthpark Medical Center in Ft. Myers, FL. He was born September 30, 1941, in McPherson, Kansas to Willard and Maxine Hull. Steve graduated from Pratt High School in Kansas in 1959. As a young adult, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He spent most of his life in the Dayton, Ohio area and became a full-time resident of Estero, Florida in 2019. Steve graduated from the University of Kansas in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Upon graduating from college, he started out in Colorado working in Inventory Control for General Motors. After transferring first to Atlanta, and then to Dayton, he retired from GM after a long career as an Accounting Manager.

Steve had a dry sense of humor. He loved to have a laugh and to share things he found funny or curious. He was detail oriented and sometimes pondered or theorized on things others wouldn't notice. He inherited a green thumb from his father and had a large, plentiful garden and compost for many years. The yard of every house he ever lived in was meticulous and beautifully decorated with flower beds and shrubbery. He loved to be outdoors in the sun. When not working in his yard, he could often be found shirtless soaking up some rays. He was always interested in wildlife. Just days before passing, he recorded a video of a mother bobcat and her trio of kittens strolling past his condo lanai. When getting together with friends or family, Steve enjoyed celebrating happy hour with a cocktail or a glass of red wine. It was a time to relax and play games like cribbage or Euchre. Steve was a skilled strategist and athlete, and it was nearly impossible to beat him at any game or sport. His competitive nature shined most brightly on the tennis court. He was an amateur champion, and his name is engraved on countless plaques and trophies. In high school, he was the Kansas state A-B division tennis champion in singles in 1959, and doubles 1958 and 1959. He was twice the singles champion in the Montgomery County Tennis Open 45 and over. In 2006 his USTA team was the Midwest Section Super Senior Champs and went on to Nationals. It is undisputed that tennis was his number one love, although he was also skilled at basketball and golf. He rode his bicycle regularly and prioritized staying fit and active. He was hard-working and disciplined, but also fun-loving and adventurous. It was assumed that he would outlive his family and friends because of his physical strength and his energetic spirit. His laughter, wisdom, reliability, and companionship will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace. Steve is survived by his loving and devoted wife Joyce of 33 years; daughters Stephanie (Jack) Hull, Diana (Eric) Hull; granddaughter EV (Chris) Kuzma; great-grandchildren Cooper, Brady, and Charlotte Kuzma; brother Kenneth (Anne) Hull; and ex-wife Martha Williams.
