He completed his Residency at Riverside Hospital in 1956, and completed a Residency in Anesthesiology in 1958, but returned to his first love, Family Practice, until his retirement in 2010. He was president of the Rotary Club of Brandywine Hundred 2005/2006. During his presidency he instituted the donation of books to Foster Grandparents to recognize the club's guest speakers each week. The club has been recognized by Foster Grandparents over the years at their annual luncheon as a long-time supporter of this project. Charlie was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served 2 terms each as Deacon and Session member and participated in Westminster by Heart. In his spare time he enjoyed University of Delaware Football, a season ticket holder since 1987, and loved spending time at his vacation home in Duck, NC.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Linda Green Depfer; 6 children Cynthia Crane (David), Jeffrey Depfer (Jamie), Deborah Wilson (Richard), Michael Blackway (Jeannie), Cynthia Wise, and Jeffrey Blackway (Patrice); 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nephew Greg Noss. Not sure what to say?

Deborah Benson

September 10, 2017

To the family of Dr Charles Depfer, I was speaking with my sister on the telephone on 9/10/17 and Dr Depfer's name came into our conversation. It was at that time that my sister said "you know Dr. Depfer passed away". She stated that it was not too long ago. This awesome man was the PCP for every member of my family. A man of great integrity, love for his patient's, and a great supporter. My heart is deeply saddened to hear that one of my favorite people in this life has gone home to be with our Lord. Dr. Depfer I just want to say thank you for the many years that you have been there for the Benson family. You knew us all on a first name basis. I will never ever forget you . To his family I just want to say "THANK YOU" for allowing us to have Dr. Charles A. Depfer as our healthcare provider up until his retirement.

Lovingly Submitted,

Denise Benson-Fields

Our prayers are with Dr. Depfer's family. He was our family doctor for 34 years, and always so kind. My husband Jim thought there was no like Charlie. During the years of my back injury I trusted him in all my crises. Often we talked about spiritual things in life. I know and believe, we shall see him in Heaven! Charlie loved God in a special way. One day we talked about the "Second Coming of Christ."
As some Believers, it is difficult to believe in the return of Jesus Chris our LORD and Savior.
I recall him saying, "God will do things His way,"
Indeed, Charlies, God did do things the right.

Our gently God took you Home to rest!

With Prayers,
The Keeton Family

Dr. Depfer was our doctor for many years when we lived in Wilmington. He was always so nice, and in a good mood, with a smile on his face. He made sense when he explained things and we always felt he took very good care of us. He was really nice. Very sorry for his family.

He was such a caring person and had great bedside manners. I remember stopping at his office when I was on the WPD and had him pop my back into alignment so I could complete my shift.
