Reflections of a Friend
I met David in the early 70's. A coworker had asked me to ride with her to Philly. We went to his house about 56th & Master. It was there that I was introduced to some people. One of them was David (at that time we did not know that we would become lifelong friends).
David was one of those people once you met them, would leave you feeling comfortable as though you knew them all your life. I was an employee at the Coatesville VAMC. One day a guy came through the main kitchen to eat, he recognized me and said, "I know you". (We didn't know that moment would lead to becoming friends for life).
From day one, David was always pleasant, and it was obvious he had a big caring heart. David had a genuine lively spirit that just glowed. He was a people's person. David was funny too, had a unique humorous side. David could tell a story that made you visualize what he was saying like you were actually there.
Once I transferred to the Philadelphia VAMC, we would run into each other at the Cantina or on his way to an appointment. Again, he was always in high spirits. We would talk and catch on whatever was going on in our lives. His main topics would always be about his family. Especially, his children. His face would really light up as he reached into his pockets to pull out his children's pictures, sharing details about where they were, their ages, and where the pictures were taken of his children. You could feel the love as he spoke about his children. it was obvious he was a proud father.
I will always remember my friend. The memories, good times we shared, 56 & Master, 57 & Jefferson, 49th & Thompson and the Springfield Mall. I'll always remember him as my "Big Brother", David was a real genuine friend.
RIP

My sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Mr. Dave. From
the first day I met him, he always treated me just like a daughter. I would
love to go visit him with Tamara as I knew I was in for a good time of
laughs and great old stories.
May you rest in peace Mr. Dave, and continue to look after Tamara and her
brothers as you did while you were here. You will be greatly missed.
I love you Tammy, and will always be here for you through the good and bad
times. Always remember-
“A father is one of God's first gifts to our hearts and his love stays with
us always”.
Love, Kwanza

Tamara, You are in my heart, prayers, and thoughts during this difficult time. I pray you always hold onto the warm and loving memories you shared with your father and that they forever give you the comfort and peace you need. As the days continue to pass I pray you find strength in knowing that your father loved you so much and will be a part of you forever. While nothing is harder than saying goodbye, I pray you find peace in knowing our Heavenly Father is holding him now and that He will continue to extend His love to you and your family. Remember, my hand is here to hold and my shoulder to always cry and lean on sis. With my deepest sympathy and sorrow on the loss of your Father.Love, CaDeidra
