Wiggins, Sr.
Son of the late Hugh Oliver Stokes and Carrie Thelma Wiggins, David was born in Wilmington, DE on April 22, 1945. Surrounded by his family, he peacefully left this life to be with the Lord on July 22, 2009.
David received his early education in the schools of Wilmington, DE. He was a graduate of Howard High School. As a child, he attended Coleman United Methodist Church with his mother and as an adult, gave his life to Jesus and joined the church. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy seeing active duty as a serviceman from August 31, 1964 until August 30, 1970. David was employed as an auto worker with General Motors Corporation retiring in 2001 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed working at "GM" and was proud of the craftsmanship that he and his co-workers produced at the Wilmington plant. On April 30, 1983 he was joined in holy matrimony with his best friend and partner for life, Sherrie L. (Saunders). David always said that he and Sherrie were made for each other.
David is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie Lynn (Saunders); his son, David E., Jr. (Rose) of Pleasantville, NJ; daughters, Aprili E. of Atlanta, GA and Sherrie Lynn of Wimington, DE; 10 grandchildren, aunts, and uncles including his (paternal) Aunt Shirley and Uncle Lewis Lee and (maternal) Aunt Anna Wiggins; a host of cousins, 4 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law and many friends.
Service 11am at Coleman Memorial U.M. Church 465 1/2 Anderson Dr. Wilm., Viewing 10-11am and viewing, 6-8pm Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at The House of Wright Mortuary 208 E. 35th Street, Wilm., Interment in Bohemian Manor Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.
