Francis Michael "Mike" Donohue, Jr.

AGE: 86 • Greenville

Francis Michael Donohue, Jr., passed away peacefully at his residence in Greenville, DE on Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017. He was 86.

Born in New York City on August 9, 1931, the son of Francis "Frank" and Mary Marvel Donohue of Greenville, DE. He attended Tower Hill School in Wilmington and graduated from Brooks Academy in North Andover, MA. His college alma mater was Princeton University (Class of 1953), where he was a member of the Ivy Club.

Mike served during the Korean War as a first lieutenant in U.S. Marine Corps Intelligence. Upon returning to Wilmington he began his career as a stockbroker with Laird, Bissell & Meeds, Inc. Later he became a senior vice president with successor firms Dean Witter & Co., and Morgan Stanley. He concluded his career with the Delaware office of Ziv Investment Co. a Chicago firm. Mike was a director emeritus of Corporation Service Company (CSC), founded by his grandfather, Josiah Marvel. He was a member and former president of the Wilmington Club.

In 1956, he met Audrey Furber from Darien, CT. They married and settled in Kennett Square, PA where Mike served on the local township zoning board for nearly 35 years. He and Audrey welcomed 3 children and 5 grandchildren and enjoyed their farm with a multitude of animals. They enjoyed traveling extensively in Europe and New Zealand, as well as to Antigua and Nevis during the winters. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past September.

An avid squash player, Mike won the Delaware State Squash Men's Doubles Championship four times and was on "the boards" at Wilmington Country Club. Golfing was also a favorite pastime, especially his Sunday matches at Bidermann Golf Club, and Pine Valley Golf Club where he was a member for over 50 years. He also enjoyed duck hunting starting with his father, then with his son and the many friends at the Vienna Canvasback & Rat Club in Elliott's Island, MD.

He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Cornelia "Nina" Donohue Crawford of Landenberg, PA. He is survived by his wife Audrey, their daughter Susan Donohue Bonomo (Frank) of Syracuse, NY; son F. Michael Donohue, IV (Kirstie) and his 5 grandchildren: May Elizabeth Crawford of Nottingham, PA, "Mickey", Grayson, Chase, and Skylar Donohue of Greenville, DE.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Stonegates for their continued support and loving car; as well as Lucinda, Donna and Marisha from BK Temp Home Care Services.
