George M. Haldas Age 66 of Wilmington, DE died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at his home in Wilmington, DE. Mr. Haldas worked for the last 16 years for his good friend, Al Bernard, at Bernard Personnel, which he described as the best professional years of his life. Mr. Haldas formerly owned and operated George Haldas Quality Meats for a decade and prior to that worked with his father at the family business, Haldas Brothers, Inc., a well-known meat market formerly located at 5th and King Streets. Mr. Haldas was a avid sports fan and coached his children in multiple sports, leading a baseball and basketball little league team to championships. He was a lifelong fan of professional Philadelphia sports teams and enjoyed watching as many games as possible. His biggest passion was his family, and he thoroughly enjoyed his children and 4 beautiful granddaughters. A lifelong resident of Wilmington, Mr. Haldas was born to Mr. and Mrs. Michael Haldas, who predeceased him. He is survived by his children, their spouses and 4 granddaughters: son, Michael C. Haldas of Germantown, MD and his wife, Mary, and their daughter, Alexandra; son, Lawrence Christian Haldas of New Castle, DE and his wife, Donna, and their daughters Jessica, and Melissa Haldas Ross of Newark, DE and her husband, Christopher, and their daughters, Alexis and Lauren. He is also survived by his sister, Irene Long and her husband, Harold; niece, Jennifer Minchini and her husband, Alan, and their son, Nicholas; and nephew, Michael Long and his wife, Ann-Marie, and their sons, Trevor, Connor and Parker. He is also survived by Georgia Haldas. The funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 27, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 808 N. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Friends and family make call from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, May 26, at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Sharpley. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association, 2096 Old Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19713. www.chandlerfuneralhome.com 302-478-7100

The last time I saw George was when I was jogging in Rockford Park, perhaps 50 years ago. The Haldas home on 37th St. in Wilmington, DE. was open to many school friends. Georges sister, Irene, was in my class at Harlan, PS DuPont and U of DE. Since I just learned of Georges death today, June 4, 2018, I could not resist writing to the family.
Life is but a vapor that is here and vanishes away. I am so glad I have come to trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior. Because of Him we believers have eternal life in Heaven.
It is interesting to know that Irene Haldas Long has helped restore the Queen Theater in Wilmington.
