George Rickards Obituary
AGE: 73 • Tallahassee, FL
George William (Bill) Rickards Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2014, with his wife and daughter at his side, in Tallahassee Fl. Bill was born April 12, 1941 in Wilmington, DE. He was a 1959 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. He lettered in four sports and was named to the first All Blue Hen Conference baseball team in 1959. Bill attended Southern Illinois University and served in the Delaware National Guard. Bill worked for Delaware Trust Co., in Wilmington until he was recruited for a new job in New Orleans as Senior Vice President of First Financial Bank in 1984. Bill was then transferred to Birmingham AL.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Rickards. He is survived by his wife Karen Poel Rickards, their daughter Erin Rickards of New York City, and his son Matthew Rickards of Atlanta, Ga., and many relatives.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice or the Margaret Dozier Hospice House in Tallahassee (1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308).

Bill was a terrific guy, a gifted and gutsy athelete and leader. It was great fun to be part of his teams as I was in Babe Ruth League and in two sports at Mt. Pleasant. "Band of Brothers" has become cliche', but the Knights and our teams of the late 50's and early 60's were that, and Bill was one of our leaders. Sad to see Bill go, and thanks telling me to play in the line instead of competing for fullback. It turned out well.

Karen I am saddened to here of your loss of Bill. I will always cherish knowing Bill at both Mt Pleasant and Delaware Trust. Many fond memories.

I am so sorry to hear about Bill. Somehow I just missed seeing it on Facebook and I felt so sad when I saw your post today. I didn't know him well, but I remember he was always nice to me and I liked both of you so much. Such a great couple.
