My eulody to my Dad,
Losing my Dad is the most difficult thing I have ever gone through. As I stand here today, I realize how fortunate I was to have him as my Father. I don’t have the words to express his influence in my life and all our lives but I know that it is through his example that I learned to be the father and the husband that I am today.
When I was a child, my Dad was just a Dad. But now that I am a Father, I appreciate the many sacrifices and the long road he travelled to get us all here today. I think he had a pretty amazing trip and he was an amazing Dad.
My dad was uncommonly kind and generous. It was never about him and always about us. He loved all of us unconditionally with such joy and pride that it lit up his face every time we were together. We could do no wrong or at least not much.
There was never a time that I could not talk to Dad or rely on him for help or valuable guidance. Although he could be a man of few words, that made his advice all the more valuable.
Dad was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son, quite simply a great man.
A man that made sure that his family and those around him always came first.
On Dad’s final day with us, as we celebrated my Mother’s birthday with maybe a bit too much fine wine and champagne in typical Blaszkow fashion, he toasted me “Nostrovia” (na zdrowie) and then tried to teach me to say it correctly which I couldn’t. It was a funny moment that I will never forget. I apparently have too much Mick in me and not enough Polack to get the pronunciation quite right, no offense. It was a good last day, a great day. That day was a gift to us all but it was bittersweet.
Never one to complain Dad showed strength and love right up until his last day with us. I only wish I had one more day to spend with him. I would tell him how much I love and appreciate all that he did for all of us. I would tell him he is my hero.
I only hope that one day, when I die, my children and my children’s children can look back, tell funny stories about me, look at all the old pictures of happy times, and talk about how I loved them, and their mother. Then, like my father, I will have led a complete life.
Love you Dad
