Joseph Lambert "Joey" Conway
Middletown - Joseph Lambert "Joey" Conway, age 43, of Middletown, DE, passed away suddenly following a car accident on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
Joey will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Ashley, and their two children, Chase and Logan. He is also survived by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Diane, siblings Elaine McCall (Dan) and Brian (Lindsay), and several nieces and nephews.
Joey graduated from Glasgow High School and Goldey-Beacom College. After a short stint working at MBNA, he took his extraordinary carpentry skills into the family business, Conway Construction. During his time there, whether it was an official job or just a favor for a friend or family member, the remodeling and additions he constructed inside and out of local houses will remain examples of his fine workmanship for generations to come. He most recently used his management and carpentry skills working as a Project Manager at Art Guild.
Joey had a talent and gift of craftmanship that not only provided him a career but a way to service and help others. Rarely was there ever a time when he wasn't knee-deep in a project, either creating, fixing or updating something in or around his house or, because of his handy skills, he was often called upon to assist others, always doing so with a smile on his face.
Joey was competitive by nature, which served him well as a wrestler and football and baseball player throughout his childhood and at Glasgow High. This trait followed him into adulthood no matter the backyard, basement or tavern game, especially his favorite - cornhole. Whether on the beach, at a campground or in his own backyard, Joey perfected tossing a bag with one hand while balancing a favorite beverage in the other.
Joey's greatest joy was spending time with his family. In recent years, they spent many weekends exploring various campgrounds, often with Bill and Carolyn as well as other friends. Their travels took them as far north as Maine and south to the Outer Banks and Disney World. He loved watching his boys play sports as both a parent and a coach. But Joey's absolute favorite place to be was home in his own backyard and adjacent woods, where once the day's project and chores were complete, he spent countless hours with his sons, zip-lining, ATVing, trampolining, hanging out in their treehouse, and just "being boys." And of course, the perfect ending to any day was a cocktail on the deck with his high school sweetheart and very best friend, Ashley.
While Joey was taken away far too soon, it's his love for his family, his passion for life and his easily recognizable "grin and chuckle" that will always be remembered.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 11:30 am on March 1, 2021, at St. Margaret of Scotland R.C. Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 am. Face masks will be required for all in attendance. Interment will be held privately.
