Joseph Rollo Obituary

Joseph V. Rollo Jr.

Joseph V. Rollo Jr., 80, passed away at home surrounded by his family on July 5, 2012.

Mr. Rollo was born in Wilmington, DE to the late Joseph and Madeline (Riccio) Rollo.

Mr. Rollo had been a barber for over 60 years. He learned his trade at a young age from his father in their family barber shop. He was self-employed for many years and later became a barber at Michael's Hair Cutting. He also cut hair at The Little Sisters of the Poor at their previous location on Bancroft Parkway and their current location. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Fraim Center for Active Adults. Mr. Rollo enjoyed dancing, painting and making unique jewelry, but most of all, spending time with his loving family.

Mr. Rollo was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Emanuel R. and Mary "Dolly" Rollo, as well as his brother-in-law Frank A. Funaro Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Ann Marie (Funaro) Rollo; two sons: Dr. Vincent J. Rollo and his wife Jennifer of Maryland, and Michael A. Rollo and his wife Theresa of Wilmington; and five grandchildren: Dominic, Anthony, Elizabeth, Patrick, and Giovanni. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: Joseph Funaro and Mark Funaro (and his wife Teena); his sisters-in-law: Celeste Funaro and Carmelita Menton (and her husband Fran) and nieces, nephews and extended family members: Joann, Fran, Lisa and Bonnie.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Michelle Frye, who he referred to as his Guardian Angel.

Mass of Christian burial will be offered Tuesday, July 10, at 11 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. Entombment will be at Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 11 Independence Way, Newark, DE 19713 or to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Mrs. Rollo, Michael and Vincent. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I remember him a young girl when we all the neigborhood kids played together that he was always smiling. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
