World War II Veteran

Joseph J. Sheeran, retired owner of Sheeran Direct Marketing and a World War II veteran, passed away June 11, 2008 at his home in Earleville, MD. He was 84.

Joe, the son of the late Joseph and Marian Sheeran, was born on May 17, 1924 and raised in Phila-delphia. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after his high school graduation. He was Advertising Director of the Family Finance Corporation for fifteen years before founding his own company, Joseph J. Sheeran, Inc., which now, in its 45th year, operates as Sheeran Direct Marketing. While he continued to provide guidance for the company, Joe retired from daily operations in 2006. Beyond his dedication to his business, Joe was a past member of the Poor Richard Club of Philadelphia, the Advertising Club of Wilmington, the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, Concord Country Club and various other civic and business organizations.

In addition to his wife, Peggy, Joe is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann Sheeran of Wilmington, DE; his stepson, Mitchell R. Other survivors include his in-laws, Anthony and Billye Sarbanes of Salisbury, MD, along with their children, Beth and Jimmy and their families, also of Salisbury.

His family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Seasons Hospice of Maryland and his nurse, Lillie Brooks.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 North DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be at 4 pm on Saturday at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury, MD.
