Josephine SHANK Obituary

Josephine J. Shank Age 87 of Newark, DE died Sun. Sept. 30, 2001 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Shank was born in Kingston, PA the daughter of the late Charles and Thelma Rydzewski. She graduated from the Metropolitan School of Nursing in New York City, St. John's University and the University of Maryland. She worked as a public health nurse for the city of New York before joining the Army Nurse Corps where she served in the Far East during the Korean Conflict. After leaving the service she joined the military reserves and attained the rank of Colonel before retirement. She is survived by her husband, Merle Jim Shank and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass will be held at 10:30 am Thurs., Oct. 4th at Holy Family Church, Gender Rd., Newark. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm. Wednesday evening at R.T. FOARD & JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Burial will be held at 1 pm Friday, Oct. 5th at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, c/o the funeral home. www.dmvobits.com/foard
