Kathleen Hashinger Obituary

Kathleen H. Hashinger

formerly of Downingtown, PA - Kathleen (Kay) Henson Hashinger was born on August 27, 1922, in Micanopy, Florida. She passed quietly at Millcroft Nursing Home Newark Delaware on May 12, 2018.

Kay was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Bruce M. Hashinger Jr. and by her parents James Fanning Henson and Eva Belle Freyermuth Henson and her sister Louise Henson Newcomb. She is survived by her son Bruce M. Hashinger III and daughter-in-law Annet Reigel of Bear, Delaware.

Kay graduated from Orlando High School. She served in the US Navy at various Naval Air Stations stateside during World War II. She met her future husband at a local church social for soldiers. They were married in 1943 and after the war they moved to Bruce's home town of Downingtown, Pennsylvania where she was employed for a time at Leaman Chemical Tank Lines. From the early 1970's until the mid 1980's, they resided in Pittsfield, Massachusetts where she worked at Chemex Coffee Makers. She and Bruce retired to Milford, Delaware to be close to their son and others of his family. She moved to Newark Delaware in 2006.

She fished with her father when she was growing up in Ocala, Florida and as an adult enjoyed boat and surf fishing with her husband and son. Kay was the one to take the fish off the hook for her squeamish husband. She passed the fishing gene on to her son. She was an avid reader, especially of mysteries and animal stories. Her other interests included classical music, sewing, crossword puzzles, card games, and jigsaw puzzles. Kay was independent into her early 90's and would walk from Main Towers in Newark to the Pathmark for weekly grocery shopping even when she eventually had to use a rollator walker.

As her health failed in the last few years, she became a resident of Millcroft.
