Marion Robinson Obituary

Marion Q. Robinson

AGE: 91 • Wilmington, Delaware and

Center Lovell, Maine

Marion Robinson, age 91, died peacefully on August 1, 2016 at Stonegates Health Center, Greenville, DE. She was born in Georgia, the only child of Samuel Whitfield and Hazel Mundy Quisenberry. Marion was a graduate of Washington Seminary (now The Westminster Schools) in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA and University of Georgia. In 1948 she moved to Wilmington, DE with her parents when her father transferred to work for DuPont. From 1948 to 1950 Marion was employed by DuPont in their advertising department.

While working for DuPont, Marion was introduced to her future husband, Gilpin Rile Robinson. The couple raised three children and lived for many years in Deerhurst, where they had a vibrant social life with many friends. Marion kept active in the Junior League of Wilmington and as a member of the Junior Board of Memorial Hospital (now Christiana Care.) She and Gil were members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and, in their later years, of Christ Church of Christiana Hundred. Marion took delight in being an avid supporter of her children's extracurricular activities, whether it was as a den mother for the Cub Scouts or as a loyal cheerleader for her kid's participation in various sport teams. She also enjoyed being active in team sports herself, playing regularly in tennis and bowling leagues. Marion loved her social life and was a true and loyal friend to all who knew her. Probably most dear to Marion was spending summers with Gil and family at their beloved cottage on Kezar Lake in Maine where she had another close-knit community of friends. Although she spent most of her life in mid-Atlantic and northern climes, Marion remained a Georgia girl at heart with her beautiful smile, her hearty laugh, and her sweet southern charm.

Marion lost her husband Gil in 2007. She is survived by her children: Gilpin (Rob) Robinson of Reston, VA; Patricia Robinson of Newton, MA, and Susan Robinson of Cambridge, VT and by her grandchildren: Sarah Robinson of San Francisco, CA; and Kelton and Benjamin Finch of Somerville and Newton, MA.

The family expresses their sincere thanks to the wonderful staff members at Stonegates, who lovingly cared for Marion for more than a decade.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Christ Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday September 10, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marion can be made to the Kezar Lake Watershed Association, PO Box 88 Lovell, ME 04051; or the Greater Lovell Land Trust, PO Box 181, Center Lovell, ME 04016.
