Paula Crowe Obituary

Paula Gibson Crowe

Age 87, a teacher-musician-wife and mother. One of three daughters of the late Frank and Mildred Gibson of Syracuse, NY.

She is survived by a husband, John E. and two children, Jonathan C. of Kirkland, WA and Jennifer C. Weinert of Berlin, VT, plus four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Paula early followed a family teaching tradition, preparing with a BA in music education at Crane/ Potsdam followed by a master's degree in music at the University of Rochester. In addition to a teaching career at schools in Rome, Syracuse, Bridgewater, N.J., and locally at the Sanford School and the Academy of Lifelong Learning, Paula has performed with several small symphonic groups and in the string section of the Newark Symphony Orchestra for 24 years.

Her family and friends will sorely miss Paula, particularly those who sailed, camped or skied with her. She's truly rated by her husband and children as a "best first mate and mother".

Sincere thanks are offered to the staff members at Christiana Hospital and Heartland Hospice who helped her through a very difficult last month of Parkinson's Disease.

Friends may call on Wednesday, February 22, from 6-7 pm at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway (Rt. 2 East at Duncan Road) Wilm., DE 19808 where a service will begin at 7 pm. Burial will be private.

It was a pleasure knowing Paula and playing with her in the Newark Symphony, especially comparing our experiences playing violin at the University of Rochester.
