Peter Peffer Obituary

Peter A. Peffer, Jr.

Age 79, of Middletown, DE died peacefully at Parkview Nursing Home on March 24, 2011. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1932, the son of Dr. Peter A. and Marie Elizabeth Walte Peffer. Pete attended West Nottingham Academy and the University of Delaware and graduated with a degree in chemistry in 1957. While in college Pete was President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Interfraternity Counsel, and was a member of the U of D golf team. His college education was interrupted by a call to duty for his country in June, 1953. As a Corporal from the U.S. Army, he was honorably discharged, and then completed his undergraduate degree.

Upon graduation, Pete was recruited by the E. I. duPont de Nemours Co. and worked with the Polymer Products Dept. at the Chestnut Run Site. Ultimately, he became Production Manager guiding such notable product lines as: Neoprene and Nordel. After his retirement in 1985, he proceeded to pioneer and lead CONDUX, a consulting firm, with an expertise in chemistry, engineering and biomedical sciences. Pete retired in 2000 spending time with family and friends while pursuing interests in bridge and golf. He spent many years perfecting his golf game at the Louviers Country Club and on Hilton Head Island.

Pete was predeceased in death by his parents; and his brother, Craig. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vivian A. Peffer (nee Sanderson); his children: Lisa (Mark) Olson, Peter A., III (Debbie) and Sally (Philip) Maniscalco; four grandchildren: Sarah (Peffer) Bozeman, Gina M. Masulli, Maggie E. Maniscalco and Maxwell S. Olson; as well as his only great grandchild: Josephine Bozeman; and extended family and friends.

Services and burial will be private.

I was very sorry to learn of Pete's passing and send my condolences to his family. Pete recruited me to become a Pi Kappa Alpha brother in 1956. I shall always remember him as a leader and friend.
