Phyllis Musser Obituary

Phyllis Klair Musser

AGE: 82 • Ocean View, DE & Estero, FL

"Wow, what a woman!" A person loved by all that knew her, Phyllis Klair Musser passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family after a very courageous battle with cancer. Phyllis was born in Wilmington, DE and spent her youth and most of her adult life in Marshallton, DE where she and her husband, Buck, raised their family. Phyllis was born to Etta (Nickerson) and State Senator Frederick Klair, who both preceded her in death. She graduated from Conrad High School in 1951. Phyllis worked over the years at Delmarva Power & Light, Haveg Industries, Corestates Bank and Wilmington Trust; but her passion was her children and babysitting and playing with her beloved grandchildren throughout the years. Phyllis was a friend to everyone she met. She was a lifetime member and Stephen Minister at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Estero, FL. She was also a lifetime member of Millcreek Fire Hall Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Cypress Bend Red Hats Society, and founding member of her family & friends Card Club. Phyllis lived life to the fullest and loved going to the beach and boating at the Indian River Inlet or just collecting sea shells at Bonita Springs Beach in Florida. She was an avid fisherman and a competitive card player (just ask any of her grandchildren). Phyllis enjoyed riding her bicycle, dancing and playing her 50's music loud; but her favorite past time was traveling with Buck in their motor home. As Proud Americans, they were able to visit all 50 states while meeting new friends everywhere they went.

She is survived by her spouse of 59 years, Lewis K. "Buck" Musser Sr. and 5 children: Joy Ciccaglione and her husband, William "Chick", of Lawrenceville, GA; Patti Jeffers and her husband, James, of Hockessin; Lewis Kenneth Musser Jr. and his wife, Linda, (Traurig) of Pike Creek; Linda Hanna and her husband, Matthew, of Hockessin; and Jacklyn Hagenbach and her husband, Lee, of Hockessin. Phyllis was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Sheree' (Chris), Ty, Bucky, Bryan (Kimberly), Randy, Jonathan, Zachary, Hunter, Melissa, Haley and Sean. She has 5 great grandchildren and one great grandson on the way. She is also survived by her dear sisters-in-law, Betty Harris and Theresa Klair. She was preceded in death by her brother, William "Skeet" Klair and sister, Doris Green.

Visitation will be held at McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Tuesday, October 7th from 5 to 8 pm. A celebration of Phyllis' life will be held the following morning at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road, Wilmington, DE 19808 on Wednesday, October 8th at 11 am, where friends may also call an hour before. Interment will be held following the service in the adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church or The Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Rd, Newark, DE 19713. Dear Buck and Joy, Patti, Linda, Jackie, etc., I was so, so sorry to hear of Phyllis's passing away. Believe me, I know what you are all going through. She was a wonderful person, and I loved her very much. I think she's up in Heaven teaching everyone card games. Maybe Fred will now learn to plan pinocle (sp?) now that she's up there with him and my mom, her mom, my Nana, and other family and friends. She will be so missed. With Love and my deepest sympathy, Margaret

In addition to being the perfect hostess, Phyllis was first and foremost, always a lady. Her kindness and love extended to all she met. I have so many fond memories of times spent with Phyllis and Buck, both in Ocean View and Estero. I only wish we could have had more. My heart goes out to Buck and her family whom she loved dearly. God be with you all during these very painful times.

I have pleasant, tender memories from our years living on Woodland Avenue raising our families. Kenny was such an important part of our lives. I will cherish those memories always. May you have comfort in your memories of your mom. I enjoyed our talks and seeing her at the polls on election day at Millcreek Fire Hall. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I share your loss.
