Robert Altmaier Obituary
AGE: 84 • Wilmington
Robert Fielding Altmaier passed away quietly on March 21, 2016. He was 84 years' old
Bob was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Ellwood "Reds" Altmaier. He is survived by his wife of 61 yrs., Joan Dobb Altmaier of Wilmington, three married children, two sons, Michael and Peter Altmaier and a daughter, Michele Seretis six grandchildren and one step grandchild and three great-grandchildren. His brother, Donald Altmaier, and his wife, Frances
Born April 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to Chadds Ford, Pa in 1939.
A 1949 graduate of Wilmington Friends School. Bob attended the University of Virgina and Washington College of Chestertown, MD. and graduated with a B.S. in psychology.,
He joined the DuPont Company in 1955 in the Textile Fibers Dept. Five years later transferred to the Advertising Department, retiring in 1990 after 35 years. While he handled the advertising for a number of DuPont products he particularly enjoyed his time as advertising manager for DuPont's "Stren" fishing line products, a leader in its field.
Bob and the family enjoyed their summer home on the Sassafras River in MD. Later in life he volunteered for many years as a depression support group facilitator for the Mental Health Assn. in Delaware. He spent many hours researching the life of his great grandfather, gunsmith, Peter Altmaier. He wrote numerous articles about Peter's unique gun designs, he was one of the first to receive a patent for breech loaded rifles. With the digital age Bob wrote and published articles online in the Gun Report and The Monthly Bugle Magazine.
Interment will be private: a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. I send my deepest sympathies to all who had the pleasure to come within Bob's orbit. His smile, humor and sincere appreciation for all whom he met have made Delaware a better place to live. It was a privilege to be one of his care givers and a friend. His legacy lives within each of us.

Our condolences to all the Altmaiers from Texas. Growing up, our families were joined at the hip. Bob was a wonderful person, full of joy.
