Robert Kanter Obituary

Robert C. Kanter

Robert C. Kanter, born December 5, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully in the early hours on May 31, 2020 in Hockessin, Delaware.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 61 years, Rosemary, as well as their children, Barbara (Raymond Para), Rob (Karen Carney), and John (Lori Sommer), and grandchildren, Benjamin Para, Grace Para, Jane Kanter, William Kanter, Owen Kanter, and Carley Kanter.

Bob was a proud alumnus of St. Xavier High School and Xavier University in Cincinnati, and he enjoyed reading books about recent history throughout his life. He was also proud of his combat service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and attained the rank of First Lieutenant as a forward observer in an artillery unit.

Bob took great pleasure in meeting new people, and he was an artist in his abilities to put them at ease and draw them out. These abilities enabled him to thrive in his long career in retail sales and management, primarily with Leugers Fine Furniture.

Bob was a steadfast friend to many throughout his life, and he maintained ties over the long term—with the "Bond Hill Gang" of his youth, his high school and college buddies from Xavier, his fellow veterans of the Korean War, and with long-time Cincinnati neighbors who became like family.

Bob and Rosemary met through a mutual friend and married in 1958. They cultivated a loving relationship of more than six decades, through better and worse, richer and poorer, sickness and health, buoyed by their mutual, deep-rooted Catholic faith. He loved their three children with his whole heart, and that love extended to their spouses as well.

His greatest joy in recent years came from the relationships he developed with his six grandchildren, about whose activities and accomplishments he never tired of hearing. Whatever the circumstances, he broke into his biggest smile at the mere mention of their names, and it's a good bet that's just how he would want to be remembered.

A private service will be held at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown, DE. Interment will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Our Dad's heart is broken from hearing of Bob's passing. Bob, and all the Bob Hill Beavers, were such dear friends (and a somewhat mischievous bunch). Our sincerest condolences.

I cant let this past without a comment . At Rosi's medical meetings Bob and I would seek each other and talk mainly about the Korean war both of us were involved.

I'm a friend of John's, through his work in New Hampshire. So sorry for your loss, it sounds like Bob was a warm, wonderful man. I can see where John get it, and also where he gets his knack for connecting with people.

met Bob several times over the years I worked with his wife Rosemary. I always saw such a kind man and so incredibly devoted to his family. Thoughts and prayers for the family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Bob.
The Wissell family sends love and condolences to all the family and friends.
Dad (Bud) would often speak of the good times the 'Beavers' had growing up in Bond Hill. He always looked forward you the annual 'Beaver Parties' and get together as well. Bob was such an important part of it all.
Eternal rest grant unto Bob, Oh Lord... and may perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
