Ruth McDevitt Obituary

Ruth G. McDevitt

Ruth McDevitt, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on September 27, 2012. Ruth was born in Philadelphia, married and then lived with her family in various Philadelphia suburbs before moving to Delaware after her retirement. She loved her children and cherished life in its fullest and will be dearly missed.

Ruth worked for Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), most recently as an engineering clerk, for over 30 years. She enjoyed education, reading, conversation, travel and spending time with her family and friends.

Ms. McDevitt was predeceased by her father, Patrick Gallagher, her mother, Mary Gallagher, as well as her younger brother Bill. She is survived by her brother John Gallagher and his wife, Shirley, of Milmont Park, PA

She is also survived by 3 children: Mike McDevitt, of Bear, DE, Vince McDevitt and his wife, Susan Anderson, of West Chester, PA and Roseann Hiltner and her husband, Ray, of Wilmington, DE. Surviving grandchildren include Amber Hiltner, Heather Hiltner, Sarah Dougherty McDevitt and husband David, John McDevitt, and David McDevitt and two great grandchildren.

A Memorial Services will be held Monday, October 1, 2012, at MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE beginning at 7 pm. Friends may call on the family there starting at 6 pm. Burial will be private.
