Samuel Slomowitz Obituary

Samuel William Slomowitz

Beloved husband, father, Zaydee, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday September 26, 2014. He was a holy and learned man who loved discussing religion and he humbly embraced the perspectives of anyone who enjoyed engaging in such philosophical conversations. He was an idealist who believed in all things positive, counseling others to find "positive and constructive" solutions to their everyday problems.

A longtime member of Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth Synagogue, Sam loved participating in weekly Sabbath morning services, and it gave him great pride to watch his son Scott and his twin grandsons, Benjamin and Joseph, lead services with confidence and grace.

Sam was an aircraft structural engineer with the Boeing Vertol Company for over 35 years and was highly respected among his peers. A distinguished member of the Boeing Vertol Toastmasters Club and editor of its newsletter, the "Stimulator", Sam was a highly-requested speaker for his colleagues' retirement parties.

An accomplished ballroom dancer, Sam also loved big band music and musical theater. But at his core, he was the consummate writer. In addition to writing two books, Sam thoroughly enjoyed pouring out his loving wisdom and encouraging messages for family and friends on important occasions. These writings have become keepsakes for all of us.

Sam was a graduate of Mesivtha Tifereth Yerushalayim Yeshiva of New York City and Weequahic High School in Newark, NJ and the Academy of Aeronautics in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1945-1947. However, before serving in Europe, he graduated from the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program (ASTRP) at City College of New York where he began a long-lasting friendship with his Army buddy, Mr. Jerry Stiller.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of 55 years, his daughter, Cindy Goldstein (Lee Goldstein of blessed memory), sons Scott Slomowitz (Cynthia), Stewart Slomowitz and 12 beloved grandchildren: Lara, Jared, Adam; Becca, Anna, Kaylee, Benjamin, Joseph; Gabby, Jesse, Lilly and Jacob.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth Synagogue, 4412 Washington Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19802. Shiva will be observed 6:30 pm, Sunday, September 28 at the home of Cindy Goldstein; shiva will also be observed 5:30 pm, Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30 at Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth Synagogue. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Adas Kodesch Shel Emeth Synagogue.

Sam was a good man. Sam taught alot of young kids how to do good design and drawings. Always had a joke or fable to share. He was like a second father. He'll be missed.

I worked with Sam here at Boeing and always said Hi to him whenever I could. He gave me a copy of his book "Jesus Christ, Sam" and also he loved to talk about the differences in our faiths. I would holler out of my car window whenever I saw him coming out of the "Toastmasters" class he would lead here at Boeing. May God bless Sam and his family.

I learned something new when I talked with Mr. Slomowitz. I still use materials he shared with my students. David Brown

I always enjoyed my infrequent visits with Mr. Slomowitz over the years. He was a man of such kindness and humor. I loved how proud he was of all his children and grandchildren. He was one of the world's top fathers and grandfathers and we will all miss him. My sympathy to Mrs. Slomowitz, Cindy, Scott, Stewart and all of his wonderful grandchildren. I know you will cherish the memories of this great man.
