Van LeRae Jenkins, Sr.

AGE: 78 • Wilmington

Van Jenkins, Sr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Veterans Hospital, Elsmere, DE.

He was born in Grover, PA and served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was a carpenter for Local 626, New Castle, retiring in 1999. He enjoyed collecting recyclable metal items. Van took pleasure in listening to country music, especially Allan Jackson. Mostly he loved spending time at home with his 2 great grandchildren and the rest of his family.

Van's wife of 20 years, Carolyn, died in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 7 years Irene Hershberger, 2 children, Tony (Mellisa) Jenkins and April Jenkins, 14 grandchildren, many step-children, a sister, Carol Kipp of Grover, PA and a large extended family.

A committal service will be held on Wednesday, October 1, at 1pm, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wilmington VA Hospital, c/o Voluntary Services, 1601 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmingnton, DE 19805.

5 years have came & gone since you left my life. I think of you everday, think you hear my thoughts , do get little sighns that its you. I still haven't learned how to live without you, thought that keeps me going is I know your watching over us. still loving us from other side. I know you are with Tommy ,loving him. I miss you everday Pop , still smell you in Betsy so I know you are along for the ride. Love & miss you till we meet again.♡♡
