William McCafferty Obituary

William F. McCafferty (Poppy)

AGE: 65 • Wilmington

On May 24, 2014, following a courageous heartbreaking illness, Bill passed away at St. Francis Hospital.

Bill will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who knew him. We will all miss his great sense of humor.

He graduated from P.S. duPont High School. He then joined the United States Marine Corps, did three tours in Vietnam, and was proud to be a Marine.

Bill worked for Harry Kenyons for 18 years, and then worked for 16 years at the job he loved most at New Castle County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ellis McCafferty, and his granddaughter, Heather M. Sansone.

Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Baker) McCafferty; his two children, William and Rebekah; his three grandchildren, Michael, Kaitlin, and Christina; his great-granddaughter, Marrisa Sansone; and his three sisters, Peggy Pollard, Elizabeth Fithina, and Joann Garcia. He also leaves behind his best buddy, James Southard, who took him on many road trips.

At Bill's request, he wanted everything private.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice In-Patient Unit, 6th Floor, St. Francis Hospital, 701 N. Clayton St., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Pat, I am so sorry for Bill's passing. Thank you for calling me. I know he was your best friend. I will always remember him as "Wild" Bill. He was ornery, funny and sweet at the same time. It still seems like yesterday when he would pull up at my work and announce his arrival on his loud speakers. I will truly miss him.

Dear Family,

We are sorry for your loss and wish to extend our thoughts and prayer for the family.

This is sure to be a strange message when I explain our relationship. My father, Ralph L. McCafferty still alive and 90 years old and a WW2 vet as a Marine is a cousin to Ellis. Ellis' father Ellis was my father's brother; his name was Ralph J. McCafferty. I am Ralph C. McCafferty and am also 65 years old and living in north Wilmington. I have a brother Richard and a daughter Shannon and a granddaughter Kiersten at age 9.

If you wish please feel free to contact me a [email protected]

Again, we are sorry for you lose.
