Eileen Joan McElrone

1948 - 2023

Eileen Joan McElrone (nee McKeown), 74, Aston, PA, passed away Monday April 3, 2023. Beloved wife of 46 years to the late Charles B. McElrone Jr., mother of Kerry McElrone (Joe) of Wilmington, Del., and Erin McElrone Brennan (James), of Ardmore, Pa. Also survived by sisters Dolly Desiderio and Jacqueline Krail, brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Kathleen Martin of Ridley Park, and several nieces and nephews. Born October 25, 1948 to the late Joseph and Catherine (Bernero) McKeown and raised in South Philadelphia, Eileen attended St. Richard's Grade School and was a graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School. She settled in Delaware County after marrying Charles in 1972, first for many years in Swarthmore before settling in the Ballinahinch section of Aston. Eileen worked as an administrative assistant at Swarthmore College for over 25 years and was a longtime parishioner of both Notre Dame de Lourdes and St. Thomas the Apostle churches. She enjoyed Broadway theatre, the ballet, music, and the arts. Eileen liked decorating and baking, and was an avid reader. She was a diehard Phillies fan, and loved traveling whether near, like Sea Isle City and New York City, or far like Ireland and Italy. Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Friday April 14th at 10:30 am from St. Thomas the Apostle Church 430 Valleybrook Rd., Glen Mills, PA 19342.
