James DelBello Obituary

James DelBello, Esq. age 83 passed away peacefully at home in Wallingford, PA. on July 31, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Marjorie DelBello, children Catherine and James DelBello, Jr., Esq., grandchildren Sydney, Rocco, Analise, and Declan and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Christine (DiNubile), and sister Mary DelBello. Jim was born and raised in Yeadon, PA. He later lived in Media and Philadelphia, PA. He enlisted in the US Army and was trained at the Foreign Language School at the Presidio in San Francisco. He was a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, where he received a BA in history; then after the army, Jim received a master’s degree in Russian Studies from Georgetown University. While at Georgetown, Jim applied his language skills by working as a translator for the Library of Congress. Later he went on to attain a Juris Doctorate from Temple University. He practiced law in Delaware County for over fifty years. Jim was an Assistant District Attorney and successfully tried many high-profile cases, before going into private practice in Media, PA. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Eagles fan, an accomplished woodworker, and a lifelong scholar and lover of classic literature and history. He particularly enjoyed the works of James Joyce and traveled to Dublin twice to deepen his knowledge of that author. Funeral services are private. To the DelBello family,
Jim's understated demeanor as an individual and as a lawyer belied his brilliant mind and his consummate professionalism. Generous with his time and his wisdom, he helps define the parameters of grace and kindness.
While those of us in the profession cannot possibly compare our loss to yours, you need to know that he was an authentic lawyer's lawyer, worthy of respect and emulation.
With the hope that fine memories of your times with him will help heal your sense of loss.

Dear Marjorie, Catherine and Jimmy:

It is with a heavy heart that I write this note of condolence from my family to yours on the passing of your husband, your father and my dear friend.

We had the pleasure of living in the same neighborhood with all of you for some time. I started working as Jim´s secretary, for many years, beginning on Front Street and then on to Main Street, in Media. He was my first introduction to the practice of law. It was the beginning of my Legal Assistant career, and I learned a lot from him. I really enjoyed the interaction with all our clients and other friends and family who always stopped by to see him, some on a daily basis. He was a kind and gentle man, and he could always deal with anything that might come his way on any given day. He was well respected and liked by all in the legal community. It was an honor to be his friend and secretary.

Jim even counseled me after I left Media to work at a large firm in Wilmington when I had mentioned to him that I was having a difficult time there. Many a day I wished I was back in his office in Media. I will never forget those times as they are part of my history with many, many memories of our workdays and family time with all of you.
May he rest in peace and may all of you find solace in knowing that this life well lived was that of the man you called husband and father.
With my deepest sympathy

I am so saddened to hear of Jimmy's passing. We go back to my early teens and I always saw him as a bright, reasoned, compassionate friend. He towered in his practice of the law in Media and was respected by all. He, Dyran and I were Yeadon boys through and through. My love and deepest sympathy to his lovely Marjorie and her children. Much love, Jimmy!
