John Morgan Obituary

John L. Morgan Jr. of Aston passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at age 85. A native of Chester, he was the son of John L. and Rose A. Morgan. He attended school at St. Robert’s Parish and was a 1950 graduate of St. James High School in that city. In 1956, John began employment as a driver for the Sisters of St. Francis at Our Lady of Angels Convent, Aston. Little could anyone have known that the bond between John and the religious community would last the rest of his life. For several years after his retirement John continued to do volunteer work for the convent. The sisters, in turn, welcomed John to maintain his residence in the guest house on the convent grounds, and they saw to his many needs as he advanced in years. In his quiet and unassuming way, John was a sort of celebrity in and around Aston. Seemingly every few minutes, another friend or acquaintance would see him and shout, “Hi, John!” causing him to break out into his trademark big smile. John is survived by his sister, Rosemary Barans; his sister-in-law, Carol Morgan; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Preceding John in death were his parents, and his brothers William Morgan and Rev. James Morgan. John was a mentor to many throughout his life. He was a friend of Bill W. Please join us for John’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 22 at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Joseph, 3225 Concord Rd., Aston PA 19014. There will be no viewing. Burial will follow immediately at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in John’s name to the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston PA 19014; http://osfphila.org/donate-now/ John’s family expresses deep appreciation to the Sisters of St. Francis for the Christian love they shared with him for more than 60 years. May you rest in God’s peace, dear friend.

I was one of the many who John reached out to.
For me, it was 1985. He remained a mentor to me and a loving friend in the Fellowship, for over 32 Years. John took me as a young man and taught me Peace, Love & Unselfishness.
John, I will pray for and remember you forever!
