John Salvadore Obituary

(1939-2022) John “Jack” Julian Salvadore, Brig. Gen. USAF (Ret.), age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. He was born on June 11, 1939, in Chester, Pennsylvania and is predeceased in death by his parents, John Julian and Mary Breen Salvadore, and his son, John J. Salvadore. Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College in 1961 before starting his military career in the United States Air Force. While serving, he earned a master’s degree in business administration from Syracuse University in 1971, where he was designated a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a National Scholastic Honor Society, completed Armed Forces Staff College in 1975 and National War College in 1982. General Salvadore spent most of his military career in personnel management and recruiting in Georgia; Alaska; Texas; New York; Washington D.C.; Massachusetts; and Ramstein AFB, Germany before retiring as Commander, USAF Recruiting Service at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, in September 1991. Jack then began a successful 16-year career in the private sector becoming the first Director of Project QUEST and finally ending this chapter as Director, Organization Development at CHRISTUS Health in 2007. After his second retirement, Jack attended the Masters Leadership Program, which led him to serve on the Boards of The American Red Cross, The Children’s Museum (now the DOSEUM) and Communities-in-Schools. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Jack was a people person and loved spending time with his family and friends, golfing, drinking red wine, laughing, and telling jokes. He and his wife shared a love for travel and had many wonderful adventures to Alaska, Croatia, Greece, England, Holland, Belgium, France, and Turkey to name a few. They also enjoyed their timeshare in Aruba and made many great friends over the past 20 years. Jack married Meg Gleason Salvadore in 1989. They had a blended family with four children: John Salvadore (Joann); Nicole Hensley (Paul); and Kerry Jonietz (Bradley) of San Antonio and Kevin Moore (Joy) of Schenectady, NY. He was a wonderful role model and mentor to his children and a supportive grandfather of nine: Parker Hensley (Sydney), Mason Hensley, John J. Salvadore (IV), Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Charlie Jonietz, Addison, Ellie, and Kinsley Moore and a proud great-grandfather of Fallon Kate Hensley. He is survived by his siblings Phyllis Crepack and Frank Salvadore from Brookhaven, PA and Joe Salvadore from Media, PA. The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Porter Loring North. The funeral will be at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, with eulogies to be recited at 10:30 a.m. and mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Full Military Honors will take place afterwards in Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery. I'm so sorry to hear of Gen Salvadore's passing. I worked at Recruiting Service when he was the Commander. He was the most social, friendly commander I ever worked for. He was one of a kind. May he rest in peace.
