1946 – 2016 Matthew Joseph Brady, 69 of Holmes passed away July 16, 2016 at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park. He was born Sept. 28, 1946 in Philadelphia to the late John & Anna Brady, Sr. Matthew proudly served in the US Navy and retired after 42 years employment as a Chief Sign Maintainer for SEPTA, where he was affectionately known as “Diamond Jim”. He was active in many bowling, softball and horseshoe leagues through the years in Delaware County as well as the Schoolhouse Seniors Pool League in Folsom. Matthew was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and proud member of the NRA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law, John Brady, Jr. (Barbara). Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary E. (nee Davish) Brady; Daughter, Stephanie Mitchell (Joseph); Grandson, John Burgelbaugh; Siblings, Richard Brady (Eileen) and Marianne D’Amico (Patrick); Also many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends survive. Family and friends are invited to Matthew’s memorial visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, South Ave., Secane. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church. Cavanagh Family Funeral Home of Norwood is serving the Brady Family. Diamond Jim will be so missed. He recently made another appearance on ABC news because he loved to play horseshoes, softball, etc. He was an amazing brother, brother in law, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Friends that have known him since he was 10 years old. I will miss my uncle but I know he is with his parents, (my parents) his older brother and sister in law, as well as other family members.
