Richard Delgrego Obituary

Richard P. Delgrego Husband, Father, Grandfather and Marine Richard P. Delgrego, revered Husband, Father, Grandfather and Marine, left this world peacefully on the morning of March 21, 2012. Richard was born March 24, 1930 at Delaware County hospital. Along with Sue Delgrego, his wife of 60 years, Richard was a longtime and well-respected resident of Leedom. He was defined by his strength - physical, mental and emotional - as well as his meticulous attention to detail. Richard held numerous jobs and responsibilities throughout his life. These include 40 years at Singer Sewing Co., President of Nassau Swim Club, Commandant of the Upland Chapter of the Delco Marine Corps League and assisting the elderly at Community Transit, along with a stint driving for Yellow Cab back in the day. Richard fought for his country in the Korean War, serving as Gunnery Sergeant in the 2nd Marines. He served a total of 39 years in active duty and the reserve, which included a call-up for the Cuban missile crisis. In the service he was known as "Gunny." Back at home, Richard was known as a caring husband, a tough-love parent and an unwavering patriot. Above all, he will be remembered as both a fierce protector and a kind, loving patriarch. Though his family misses him severely, they will use the strength he exemplified to help them through their loss. Richard was an avid boater, Phillies fan and surprisingly a kind and loving pet owner for such a tough Marine. He loved vacationing in Ocean City, NJ, which was where (BayShores) he met his future wife Sue and where he spent many happy days with his grandchildren and family. Pre-deceased by his parents Paul and Lillian Delgrego and son Kim Delgrego. Survivors: Husband of Sue Delgrego; father of Dirk R. (Tracy) Delgrego; grandfather of Nicholas Delgrego, Kaes (Danielle) Delgrego, Rachel Delgrego and Amber Delgrego. Visitation: Relatives and friends may call at Cavanagh Family Funeral Home, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood Tuesday evening 7 to 9 PM and also on Wednesday after 8:30 AM. Funeral Service at 10 AM. Burial Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall. Condolences: www.cavanaghfuneralhome.com
