DELAWARE — Frank J. Wiesner, Jr. passed away peacefully at his Delaware home Thursday morning, March 1, 2018. He was 94 and a proud but humble member of The Greatest Generation.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 13, 1923 he was the son of the late Frank J. Wiesner Sr. and Emma (Kronke) Wiesner. He graduated from the Brooklyn Technical School in 1940 and began his mechanical engineering studies at Clarkson College of Technology before enlisting in the US Army in 1942. He proudly served four years participating in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during WWII.
In 1944, he would marry Elizabeth "Bette" (Anable) and together they would share 64 wonderful years tending to each other's needs and raising a family. Together they traveled the world and especially enjoyed Arizona and the Grand Canyon. They moved to Delaware in 2002, sadly she passed away in 2008.
Frank completed his studies at Princeton University with a Master's degree in Engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineer with stress analysis and was hired by Carrier Corp in 1950. He was then assigned to the product engineering department with air and gas centrifugal compressors for air conditioning and refrigeration. His proud accomplishments were designing the air conditioner and water chiller for the Chase Manhattan Building in New York. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and received the Gas Turbine Award for the most outstanding technical paper in 1978. Frank retired in 1984 but continued consulting both Carrier Corp and Elliott Company in retirement.
He was a member of St. Mary Church and treasured time spent working on family history, painting, listening to classical music, and working Sudoku and cross word puzzles. Organized and detailed he was a good provider. He was also thrifty, quiet, loving and reserved. He will be remembered for his humble caring ways and love of family.
Frank is survived by his children: Ellen (Bill) Coons of Grottoes, VA, James Wiesner of Cable, Elizabeth Robechek of Santa Fe, NM, and Barbara Wiesner of Delaware; grandchildren: Lisa Robechek and Cara Robechek (Donald deVoil); great-grandchildren: John, Callum, Isla, as well as several nieces and nephews.

I so enjoyed my time spent with Frank. He reminded me very much of my own father, whose birthday he shared. He was a beautiful example of how to grow old with grace, humor and dignity. It would be selfish to wish him back, but I will truly miss him.
