DELAWARE — Virginia "Ginny" Griffith, ninety-five of Delaware, Ohio passed peacefully Wednesday evening, May 22, 2024, at Willow Brook at Delaware Crossing.
Ginny was born November 17, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of the late Harry and Lillian Polley. She graduated from John Adams High School in 1946 and would go on to attend College of Wooster then transferring to "The" Ohio State University, becoming a member of Chi Omega Sorority, where she met and eventually married William "Sam" Woodyard and welcomed three children into the world: Cindy, Tom, and Dave.
Ginny worked for Ameritech (Ohio Bell) for 26 years, initially as an "Operator" and then returning to the workforce in the late Sixties as a "Service Representative" and eventually a "Human Resource Manager." In addition to many great professional accomplishments, she was a part of tough labor negotiations and helped keep the phone system working during an extended strike. Ginny was a well-respected woman in her career, advancing well beyond the glass ceiling of the day until she retired in the early nineties at the age of sixty-two.
She joyfully met and married her loving husband of 35 years, Floyd Nelson Griffith, welcoming his children Kathleen, Daniel, Kevin, Cynthia, Clinton, Paul, and Diana to her family. Ginny and "Griff" shared not only family but truly everything. The joy of just being with each other, in conversation, enjoying square dancing, walking, gardening, watching the Buckeyes, and traveling all across North America as well as overseas. Most of all, Ginny loved being with family and cooking for all, yet also enjoyed many quiet moments reading, bird watching or just quietly in thought. A Scouting Mom for all, camping and hiking were a fondness since her childhood. Ginny was an attentive listener, inclusive, social, full of laughter, strong, capable, sincere, and always loving. She truly completed her family in every way possible.
Ginny was a resident of Upper Arlington for over fifty years before she and Griff moved to Delaware. Always a faithful woman, Ginny (and Griff) were members of Trinity United Methodist in Marble Cliff and then the First Presbyterian in Delaware for over 30 years in total.
Left to cherish her memory along with Griff are daughter Cynthia Murphy and her husband Robert; sons Thomas and David Woodyard and wives Gailya and Kathleen respectively; stepchildren Kathleen and Tim Moats, Daniel and Rita Griffith, Kevin Griffith, Cynthia and Tim Crouch, Paul and Rhonda Griffith and Diana and Bruce Nixon; many dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her dear younger sister June Kimmel, William Woodyard, Ron Fuller, and stepson Clinton Griffith.
