Suzanne Martin Obituary

Suzanne Jane Friedman Martin
November 23, 1928 - May 6, 2022
Rancho Bernardo Suzanne Jane Friedman Martin passed away Friday, May 6, 2022. She was 93. Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stanley Martin. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Margaret) and Jonathan Martin, and Jody (Paul) Gallo; and her grandchildren, Sarah (Steven) and Rachel Martin, and Francesca and Nicholas Gallo.
Sue was born in Manistee, Michigan to Irving and Goldye Friedman of Chicago and Manistee. Sister of Ruth (Carl) Steiner and Loraine (Walter) Simon. She was a loving aunt to Joel and Barbara Steiner, Beth Simon Cherner, Catherine Simon Apte, and Grant Simon. Sue always described a very happy childhood in rural, small-town Michigan. After attending Stephens College and Michigan State, she went to live with her sister, Ruth, her husband, Carl, and their children, Barbara and Joel, in suburban Chicago. A homemaker until her children were in high school and college, Sue later sold real estate on Chicago's North Shore and worked in antiques and jewelry shops. Sue and Stanley retired early and moved to San Diego in 1984. They spent more than 30 peaceful years in Rancho Bernardo, enjoying their grandchildren and wide circle of friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Planned Parenthood (plannedparenthood.org), in accordance with Sue's liberal values and longstanding belief in people's right to make decisions about their own bodies, or HIAS (hias.org), an organization guided by its Jewish values to serve refugees seeking a better life.
