James Martin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benson Funeral Home - Dallas on Mar. 29, 2026.
James Rodger Martin, 80, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on March 26, 2026. Born on August 26, 1945, in West Point, Georgia. Rodger lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the things he loved most.

Rodger proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968, including tours in Vietnam. His time in the Marines exemplified his courage and commitment to duty-qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

After his military service, Rodger began a long and successful career with Georgia Power as a lineman before transitioning into the role of dispatcher. Following his retirement from Georgia Power, he continued his professional journey with Greystone EMC, where he also retired as a dispatcher. His work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Rodger was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary "Liz" Martin and his parents, Clifford and Mabel Martin.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Holli Phillips and her husband Tracy Phillips; step-sons, John Goins and Jeff Goins along with Jeff's wife, Deb Goins; grandsons, Dalton Phillips and Avery Phillips; granddaughters Amylia Meadows (Dustin), Krysta Cosper, and Brooke Goins; as well as great grandchildren, Sophia Koshich, Trenton Koshich, and Parker Fry. Rodger cherished every moment spent with his family and took immense pride in their accomplishments.

A man of many passions, Rodger had an enduring love for dogs and found joy in their companionship. He was especially proud of Mustang, which he enjoyed showcasing at car shows. Whether chatting with fellow car enthusiasts or reminiscing with former coworkers, Rodger had an extraordinary ability to connect with people. His warm personality made him a friend to many.

Rodger was also a sports fan who delighted in cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs football team and the Atlanta Braves. These moments brought him great happiness and were often shared with those closest to him.

James Rodger Martin will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who would do anything for his friends and family. His legacy of love, service, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn him.
