Charlie was my campaign treasurer back in the day when I used to have to run for election to keep my job as State's Attorney and, later, as Circuit Court judge. He was a trusted advisor and, most importantly, a wonderful friend. I am greatly saddened to learn that he passed away back in May. You meet few people like him in this life and, even when they are gone, the memories they leave with you and the lessons you learned from them are precious and will live with you forever.

Charles was the nicest man. We use to live on Walnut st right across from the parking lot IGA. We interacted with Charles often.

I have always had a great deal of respect for Mr.Smith. He's always been a kind man with a genuine smile and air of compassion about him. My father Robert Gribble also held him in high regard. I think these two men respected and cared a great deal for the other. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, father, pop-pop, uncle, friend,or what ever roll he played in your life. I will always remember him as a good man in my eyes. He also handed out diplomas at Wi- Hi in 1996, the year my first born son graduated from high school. I cherish that picture of the two of them. I regret not knowing him better. But I still am happy that I felt the gentle essence of the person he was. Pat, I pray that the lord brings peace and calmness to your heart for all the happiness and togetherness the two of you shared for so many years. I've always felt that kindness radiating from you also. Thank you both for being a caring family to our community and little town. Please be safe and well. I pray that God will up lift all of you in your time of sorrow. I'm sure daddy was there to meet his friends arrival.
