Frederick King Obituary

Frederick Douglas King, Sr.

Salisbury-Frederick D. (Freddie) King, Sr., 68 died Monday, August 15, 2016 at his home in Salisbury, MD.

Born here, he was the son of the late Ollie and Mary (Cottman) King.

He was a 1966 graduate of James M. Bennett High School. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War, receiving and honorable discharge.

In 1969 he enrolled at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, MD, receiving a B.A. degree in industrial arts.

He taught Industrial Arts for over five years at Sudbrook Middle School in Pikesville, MD.

He was a member of Friendship U.M. Church in Allen, MD. He was also a former member of the VFW Post #10159, Salisbury and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

His survivors include his wife: Barbara A. King of Princess Anne, MD; three children: Jefferson (Michelle) King of Baltimore, Frederick (Daughn) King, Jr. of Columbia, MD and Christine Jones of Salisbury; six grandchildren; one sister: Mary Fields of Slaisbury; one aunt: Marie Miller; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers: Ollie, Jr., Wilbert and Gable King preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held noon, Wednesday, August 23, 2016 at Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury where friends may view one hour prior to service. Interment will be in the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.

I was a freshman with Fred in 1969 at Maryland State College and he was the class president. I remember in his speech he said that "A Stranger is a Friend whom you have never meet: and that statement has always stuck in my mind when ever I think about him. To God Be the Glory!

I am so sorry to learn of Frederick's passing. I am a classmate of his, from the first graduating class of JMB Class of 1966. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
