Logan Reddish Obituary

Logan Michael Reddish

Oxford, MD-Logan Michael Reddish, 28, died on May 9, 2017 at his home in Oxford.

I don't know how you capture the essence of Logan Michael Reddish in mere mortal words. Let me give you a taste of the flavor that he was. Born May 6, 1989 in Salisbury Maryland to Dale Greenhawk (Reddish) Jafari and Walton F. Reddish, he soon became known as Bear. Warm and cuddly, but look out for those claws. He was born facing the challenge of his immunodeficiency disorder, but rarely did that get in his way. He moved into adolescence with the rebellion we never saw in our first two sons, but emerged with a quick wit, a sarcastic bite, and an amazing capacity for love and compassion. In the midst of a heroin epidemic, I want all mothers to know that a select few will successfully slay that dragon as Logan had done, achieving 40 hard-fought months of a clean and sober life. As many times as he cheated death, who could have known that his own body would betray him in life.

Logan was an amazing man. Fiercely loyal to friends and family, he had found his joy in his work with the Talbot County Department of Emergency Services, the Eastern Shore Breaking News feed, and his dream come true: a newly inducted volunteer fireman with the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department. He was passionate about Hockey and Alex Ovetchkin was his idol; he named his cat OvetchKat. He took joy from the simple pleasures: family dinner on Sundays, watching the sun rise or set over the Tred Avon River, a good cup of coffee, Pop Tarts, sports and video games. The Capitals and the Ravens have lost a great fan. His sudden and unexpected death occurred while he was playing NHL Hockey on his PlayStation quietly at home. Perhaps his colleagues said it best: "Dispatcher Reddish #168. Talbot Center has lost a hero. Rest easy brother (and son)…we'll take it from here. To some this is just a line…to others it is a family crest." As Ashlea Greenhawk reminded me: "A small change in one place of our complex universe can have a large effect elsewhere". This ripple in the cloth of the universe will travel to eternity.

Logan is survived by his Mom and stepfather, Dale and Reza Jafari of Easton; his father and stepmother, Walton and Tiffany Reddish of Delray FL; brothers: Jason B. Reddish (Karen) of Rockville MD and Kaelon P Reddish (Melissa) of Salisbury; stepbrother: Mark Jafari (Lynn) of Frederick; his maternal grandmother, Sally Greenhawk of Oxford; beloved aunts: Lawrie G. Dudley (Wick) of Queenstown; Stacey A Anderson (Ron) of Oxford; Michael D Greenhawk (Kelly) of Oxford; and Brian S. Greenhawk (Mindy) of Cambridge, and maternal step-grandmother Connie Greenhawk (Oxford). He leaves behind the nieces he adored: Natasha and Cassandra Jafari, Cecilia and Lydia Reddish, and Moira and Willow Reddish and many treasured cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Philemon C Greenhawk, Paternal Grandparents Walton and Elizabeth Reddish, maternal uncles Philemon Jr. and Kelly Greenhawk.

Dear Dale and Walt - Logan was like a second son to us when we lived in Kilbirnie. We loved watching Logan and John playing in the tree house in our yard. They both had such vivid imaginations. I remember Logan and John finding a board in our yard and making a see-saw out of it. They would ride that board and sing, "Homemade see-saw." We got the biggest laugh out of that. Logan was always a kind and polite young man. We are very sorry about Logan's passing. We send our love and prayers to you.

Dale and the whole family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I realized when I read this that Logan and my Rachel had the same birthday. May 6th must be a magical day to be born! Cherish the moments you had with him. I went back and read an entry on Facebook where Logan wrote of his love and admiration for his mom. He knew you had his back.
