Monnie Paige DeBord

Saltville-Monnie Paige DeBord, age 73, passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. DeBord's most recent employment was with Smyth County Revenue Commission in Marion, VA. She previously worked as a CNA with hospice, in nursing homes, in restaurant management, in retail at F.W. Woolworth's, and proprietor of Granny's Day Care. Always the natural caregiver, her greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, and Granny.

Mrs. DeBord was the daughter of the late Carl and Beulah Slate. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Moses McDowell DeBord, Sr., brother, Jim Slate, son-in-law, Paul Tamosaitis, granddaughter, Cara Alyss Tamosaitis, great-granddaughter, Brianna White.

Mrs. DeBord is survived by her children: Moses McDowell Jr. and Julie DeBord (Saltville, VA), Terry and John Rodenbaugh (Laurel, DE), Mark and Betsy DeBord (Salisbury, MD), Jennifer Adkins (Lehigh Acres, FL); grandchildren: Moses McDowell III and Amanda DeBord (Erie, CO), Mike and Chassity DeBord (Salisbury, MD), Jessica DeBord and Chris Rehak (Baltimore, MD), Amber Tamosaitis (Delmar, DE), Valerie and Jason Rees (Delmar, DE), John and Holly Rodenbaugh (Wilmington, DE), Ashleigh and Junichi Takahashi (Kurihara, Japan), Vanessa and Brad Smith (Poncho Springs, CO), Brandy and Brandon Frye (Ceres, VA), Lil' Phil and Melissa Adkins (Salisbury, MD), Amanda and Travis Hopkins (Lehigh Acres, FL), Jason Adkins and Anna Mulbauer (Hebron, MD); great-grandchildren: Emily, Maddie and Benjamin Moses DeBord; Kenny, Josie, Sophie, Nate, and Natalie DeBord; Ciara, Austin, and Charlee Rees; Liam Rodenbaugh; Aiden McDowell Takahashi; Emmett and Tinleigh Smith; Topanga and Bricen Frye; Lil' Lil' Phil and Elijah Adkins; Jacob, Evin, William Moses, and Paige Hopkins; Sisters: Joy Brooks (Virginia Beach, VA), and Beth Little (Glade Springs, VA); sisters-in-law: Evelyn and George Kelly (Bristol, VA), Linda DeBord (Oak Hill, WV), and Liz Slate (Salisbury, NC); and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 16, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Virginia. Funeral services will be held at D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Elizabeth Cemetery II.
