Peggy Spence Obituary

Peggy M. Spence

Lavon—Peggy M. Spence, 81, passed away quietly at the home she shared with her husband, Gerald D. Spence, in Lavon, Texas. Born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Miller and Esther Miller Willey, long-time residents of Bethel, Delaware. After graduating from high school in Laurel, Delaware, she earned her nursing degree in Philadelphia from the Temple School of Nursing.

After a brief career in the medical offices of Dr. Charles Marvel of Laurel, Peggy gained her greatest fulfillment as a Christian wife, mother and homemaker, pursuing interests such as gardening and needlework. She demonstrated her devotion to the Lord and his salvation message as a teacher in multiple children's ministries and by actively supporting missions. Those who knew Peggy understood that her highest goal was to know God and to make Him known.

In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by her two children - a daughter, Merilee, of Garland, Texas, and son, Blake, of Greenville, South Carolina. Her family legacy includes a "daughter-in-love," Marion Parker Spence, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One of five children, Peggy leaves behind her remaining brother, Linwood "Woody" Miller, and sister, Natalie Loughran.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, at Sailors Bethel Methodist Church in Bethel, Delaware, with Dr. Bill Bowen of Wilmington, Delaware officiating. Burial will follow immediately after the service at the church property.

In lieu of flowers, Peggy had requested that donations be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214-0800, (615) 564-5000, [email protected].

Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home Laurel, DE. Online condolences can be made to the family by visiting, www.hsdfuneralhome.com.

Thoughts and prayers are with her husband and family. I remember her from our times in Bethel (my parents were Anna Lee and Earle Allen) and we knew her and her family. Again we are sorry to hear of her death.
