Shirley Ann Messick

MILLSBORO — Shirley Ann Messick, 75, of Millsboro, and formerly of Bridgeville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro. Born in Greensboro, Md., on March 2, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Franklin Benjamin and Lilly Ann Pinder Dean.

After graduating from high school, Shirley, on Oct. 19, 1957, married Kenneth Charles Messick. For more than 25 years, they resided near Bridgeville, where she worked for Allen Family Foods throughout the 1990s. Her greatest passion was being a homemaker and caring for her loving family. Shirley, in later years, was a volunteer at the Bridgeville Senior Center.

Mrs. Messick is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Charles Messick of Millsboro; three sons, Charles L. Messick of Lancaster, Pa., and Frank W. and David Messick, both of Laurel; one daughter, Brenda L. Lowe of Laurel; one brother, Jack Dean of Seaford; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home at 700 West St. in Laurel. Pastor Ken Deusa will officiate. Friends and relatives may call Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bloomery Cemetery at Smithville near Federalsburg.
