moms last words
Today I want to share my last phone call with my mom Virginia Thompson. Around 11:30 on a Friday morning December 11th, 2020 she called me from ICU. As always she had to identify her self "John this is MOM", like I didn´t know lol. She´s been in and of the hospital several times for extended illnesses but this time she called me to tell me she was very tired and didn´t want to suffer any longer. She went on to say how proud she was of me and what I´ve become. I knew where this conversation was heading and it was so hard to hold back the tears and wanted to be as comforting as I could be. She said to please tell all your brothers and sisters the same thing. Tell all my grandchildren and great grandchildren that I love them with all my heart. It was so hard to hold back because it was so important to hear what she had to say. I told my mom that she was the best mom ever and I would certainly let everyone know what she said but they already know. I told her that I would think of her every sip of coffee, every Hallmark show which was her favorite and mine too, and every holiday especially Christmas which was her favorite. She then said John I love & will you pray with me. As clear as day she led into the Lord´s Prayer, I was floored. I will never forget especially how blessed I was to be able to share that with her as her final words and to take the responsibility to take that message as requested to the family. She literally faded out into a sleep and at 2:09 the doctor called to say she peacefully passed. We will all miss her and her legacy of what family represents will be with us eternally.

Mom-Mom was one of the most caring people I have ever met. She would do absolutely ANYTHING (this is not an understatement haha) for her family, as family meant everything to her. She was so proud of us and bragged on everyone every chance she got. She always had everyone laughing and loved with everything she had. Her faith could (and did) move mountains and I am certain that same faith was a source of comfort for her on Friday. I will miss her fiercely.
