Aly Nahas Obituary
Aly was a Professor of Pharmacology - University of Rochester, Co-Founder of the Islamic Center of Rochester, Chairman of the Commission on Christian-Muslim Relations, Interfaith Alliance of Rochester, President of the Arab American Society of Rochester, WXXI Community Advisory Board & Public Speaker ("Islam 101") at churches and universities to enhance interfaith understanding.
Aly's funeral prayer will be held in an outdoor ceremony, 1:30pm on Wednesday, August 5th at the Islamic Center of Rochester, 727 Westfall Road, Rochester NY 14620. His burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery.

I knew Ali as a good friend and staunch colleague during many interfaith presentations we often chaired and led together. I loved him for his courage, steadfastness, devotion to peace and justice- as well as for his sense of humor and for the excellent hummus he brought to our interfaith meetings. He showed me what it meant to be truly Muslim, truly devoted to serving God. Peace be on him.

Aly was a valued friend to me as Supervisor of the Town of Brighton. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Islamic Center in our community, and I had the privilege of working with him and others on this wonderful project. His dedication to his faith, to interfaith friendship, and to our community will always be remembered. When my husband and I visited Egypt, I thought of Aly and his deep connection to his heritage. I miss him still and wish his family and friends the blessing of cherished memories. May he rest in peace.
