Benjamin Massachi Obituary
Rochester - Benjamin Massachi: 1941 - 2021
Benjamin (Ben) Massachi passed away at the age of 79 on January 19, 2021 -- surrounded by enduring love from his entire family. Born in Tehran, Iran, Ben's lifelong passion for learning and teaching helped shape his strong and loving character.
At age 16, Ben entered the Abadan Institute of Technology on scholarship, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. After helping move his family from Iran to Israel, Ben earned a Master's Degree in engineering at the City University of New York. He soon moved to Rochester as a Kodak employee, married, and earned an MBA at the University of Rochester. He went on to become an entrepreneur and later a professor.
Ben was pre-deceased by his parents, Rachel and Moshe Massachi and his brother, Jacob Massachi. He is survived by his three cherished and loving children: Dalya, David, and Deborah Massachi; siblings: Mort Massachi, Anna Miller, Ilana Magid, Avraham Massachi, Lea Morsky, Ester Tobochnik, and Bijan Massachi; and 23 nieces and nephews.
Ben's memory will be treasured by those whose lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Children of Persia (childrenofpersia.org), Arts of the Islamic World Exhibition, Brooklyn Museum (brooklynmuseum.org), or Jewish Educational Loan Fund (jelf.org).

I met Ben almost three years ago on a plane flying into Rochester. He and I talked for the entire flight. He was the second most interesting man I ever met, next to my husband. We were able to have him to our house for dinner a number of times, and also share some good meals at some of our favorite local restaurants. I'm happy that my husband and I had the chance to get to know him. Rest in Peace, Benjamin. Amen.
