Colleen MacMillan Obituary

Colleen MacMillan

Gates - Passed away on Saturday, December 26th, 2020 in her 90th year. She is survived by her children, Karen (Max) Sauer, John (Cindy) MacMillan and Steven MacMillan; grandchildren, Thea, Cammie, and Lonnie; many nieces and nephews.

Colleen represented an era when wives and mothers were able to tend to the needs of family as "stay at home" moms. It wasn't unusual for her children to come home from school and be greeted with a hot batch of molasses cookies on the kitchen table. Dinners were served each night, hot out of the oven with meat, potatoes, vegetables, and dessert on every plate. Well do I remember having a story read to me by my mom before the doctor came to the house to "evaluate" whatever it was that was ailing me. It helped to keep young nerves quiet. Holiday meals were always A+ and represented many long hours that Colleen spent in the kitchen making every holiday festive and memorable. She had many friends around the neighborhood and loved afternoon Gin Rummy games with other neighborhood moms. She had a vibrant interest in the history of English royalty and thoroughly enjoyed watching anything related to it. She leaves many special memories behind and will be remembered with fondness by those close to her for years to come.

Your mom is the last of the Westerleigh Road moms that we all grew up with who have passed from this earth. What wonderful memories we have of our “at home” moms. May your memories comfort you and your family.
