Irondequoit - On January 19, 2018 at age 49. Preceded by his father, Dale Sr. and his grandparents, Elmer & Evelyn Smathers, Stanley & Pauline Kiesa and Jack & Molly Ryan. His is survived by his mother, JoAnn Smathers (Tony); son, Tristan; Tristan's mother, Stacy; several aunts, uncles, cousins and his longtime companion, Tammi Sharpe. Special thanks to Barbara Born and Todd Sodano.

I knew Dale Smathers when he worked at the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office on Henrietta Road. He helped me a great deal when I was performing autopsies as a deputy medical examiner. He was very knowledgeable and well liked by all the staff there. I will miss his friendship. May he rest in peace, wherever he is now. Dr. Douglas S. Shearer/Pathologist

Dale- I will miss your smile so much. I have a lot of memories of my childhood with you. I am so happy we were able to spend so much time together the last 6 months. You will be missed by so many. Your smile was infectious and everyone will remember that and you always! Love you ! til we meet again

I recall when Dale started at the office, we had gone out on a call and found a advanced decopmp. After we completed the scene investigation we removed the remains to the office. This was Dale's first autopsy, he had asked me about the magots, I told him just to work through them. After that he still decided to be a Dinner " ,Autopsy Tech. as it is now known. I will miss him a great deal.

I first met Dale when he was in high school and came over to the funeral home and had a love for the profession. He continued his education at Simmons Mortuary School of Science. What a great guy, with a big smile and full of life. I will always remember Dale as a friend and colleague. One day I will see you again, and when I do, you better have that smile.

Our hearts are sadden, Dale was a special kinda guy both myself and my daughter were bless to have know him for over 12 years.... Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and dedicated long term companion, Tammi. He will be sadly miss and we will always remember and never forget that great smile he wore!

Tammi & Tristan, Thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. He was an incredible guy, smart and unbelievable funny. Will miss our crazy conversations and his friendship. Mostly will miss hanging out with him over the summer at The Hollands (BJ & Kelly Holland) House the past 4 summers....nothing better then great weather, cold drinks and incredible friends.
