Farmington: Died unexpectedly on May 20, 2012 at the age of 80. Predeceased by his parents Freeman & Mary Smith Spanganberg and brother-in-law Bill Rogers. Survived by his wife Kathie Spanganberg; sons Rob & Peter (Lynn) Spanganberg; daughters Leslie (Chris) Doughty & Elaine (Peter) Zelter; grandchildren Lauren (Kirk), Brenna, Jeffrey, Emma, Hayden, Kate, Nemi, Ryan, Jack, Andrew, Ethan, Sage and Shae; sister Irene Rogers; former wife Charlotte Ellis; mother & father-in-law Jeannine & Gordon Andersen; brothers-in-law Mark (Ramona) and Dave (Sue) Andersen; sister-in-law Carol (Bob) Clough, many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Gene was an applications engineer & co-owner of KLM-Garner. He served in the US Air Force, was past chief and long serving member of the Palmyra Volunteer Fire Dept., an avid pilot who also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

No prior calling. Family and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Saturday, May 26 @ 12 Noon at the City Hill Cemetery, Dresden (Penn Yan), NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in Gene's memory.

Eugene thanks for your service to our fire department. Without your help the Krest kids would have hauled more buckets of water to the garden than it was worth. Your pump and hose helped produce more vegetables than could be imagined , gladly shared. You tried to console jean when he known as a husband passed on from carbon monoxide poison, oddly a chunk of my ice shocked his heart back to life. know Jeanne thanks you for helping too she barely made it out of John's workshop garage.
